1. What is SadakMap.com all about?

SadakMap.com provides a different approach to finding information local to a place. Its map-based interface is convenient to use when looking for businesses, public places, etc in your locality. SadakMap.com also allows you to take control of the area you live in on the map and populate it with places you have frequented in your locality. Users can then post reviews on places on the map.

Another unique feature about our site is the ability to post messages in your locality for everyone to see and respond to, thus creating a map-based discussion forum.

2. What does "Sadak" stand for?

The word "Sadak" means "a road" in the Indian language "Hindi". No points for guessing what "SadakMap" put together means. It also happens to be the name of a Turkish village.

3. Why should I register for an account at SadakMap.com?

You can browse the map and most other information available at SadakMap.com without needing an account. Registering for the FREE SadakMap.com account lets you interact with the map. e.g. you will be able to add places, post reviews, post messages, etc. The registration is very simple. 4. I registered for an account, but I am still not able to login.

After registering, you will receive a validation email at the email address you provided when registering. Please click on the validation link in that email to activate your account. You should be able to login after that.

5. How do I add a place?

You will first need to Signin. Once you are logged in, use the map controls to get to the location of the place you would like to add. Then, click on the "Add Place" icon located above the map. Next, click on the map where you want to add the place and fill in the details of the place in the window that shows up.

6. How do I post a review for a place?

You will first need to Signin. Click on the place marker on the map for the place you would like to review. In the window that opens up, click on the "Reviews" tab and follow the instructions there.

7. How do I post a message?

You will first need to Signin. Click on the "Discussion" tab in the sidebar to the right of the map. Click on the "Post message" icon located above the map. Next, click on the map where you want to post your message and follow the instructions in the window that opens up.

8. How do I respond to a message?

You will first need to Signin. Click on the message marker on the map for the message you would like to review. In the window that opens up, click on the link at the bottom (you may have to use the scrollbar) to record your response.

9. What is a "SpotMe URL" and how do I get it?

All registered users of SadakMap.com get a "SpotMe URL". It displays the home location of a user on the map.
Here is an example of a "SpotMe URL": http://www.sadakmap.com/spotme/unmesh

To setup your "SpotMe URL", first login and then click on the "Set Home" icon . Then, click on your approximate location on the map. You should see a "home icon" on the map (Note: you can click again on the map to move your home location). Click on the icon and a window will open. Activate your "SpotMe URL" by clicking on the link in this window. The subsequent window that opens will show your "SpotMe URL".

The "SpotMe URL" is of the form http://www.sadakmap.com/spotme/yourusername
where "yourusername" should be replaced with your actual username (the one that you use to Signin).

Once you have activated your "SpotMe URL", anyone can look you up on the map by loading this URL in their browser. You can always deactivate this URL by clicking on your "home icon" and following the instructions in the window.

10. I am a local businessowner. What's in it for me?

As a local businessowner, you can plot you business on the map for FREE. This is great way to get noticed by users visiting this site from your locality. You can get to see what your customers have to say by reading their reviews on your business. We are building functionality that will let you direct customized offers to users in your locality (e.g. 10% off for the first 20 customers).
